Justin Bieber Just Scrolled Through His Own YouTube at Coachella — and It Kind of Worked

Justin Bieber headlined Coachella on Saturday night, and what he delivered wasn’t a spectacle. It was something weirder — and honestly, more interesting.

There were no backup dancers. No elaborate stage design. No costume changes. For most of the 90-minute set, it was just Bieber alone on a massive stage, pacing a halfpipe-shaped structure and singing through tracks from his 2025 albums SWAG and SWAG II. If you were expecting a pop production arms race after Sabrina Carpenter’s maximalist “Sabrinawood” headline the night before, this wasn’t that.

But the real talking point came mid-set, when Bieber sat down at a desk, opened his laptop, and started pulling up old YouTube videos of himself — live, on stage, at Coachella, while also being livestreamed on YouTube. He sang along to clips of “Baby,” “Favorite Girl,” and “Beauty and a Beat.” He watched footage of himself as a kid covering Chris Brown. He even found a clip of himself walking into a glass door.

Was it self-indulgent? Obviously. Was it also kind of charming? Yeah, it was.

That nostalgia segment was his compromise — a way to give the crowd a taste of the catalog without building his whole set around it. The rest of the night featured guest appearances from The Kid LAROI on “Stay,” Tems, Wizkid, and Dijon. Guitarist Mk.gee joined for the finale, “Daisies,” as fireworks lit up the desert sky.

Some fans loved it. Others left during the acoustic deep cuts. Critics were split — Rolling Stone called it a missed opportunity, while Billboard praised the quieter moments as Bieber’s greatest strength. Either way, this wasn’t a legacy victory lap. It was a guy protecting his peace, doing exactly what he wanted, on the biggest stage in the world.

Bieber gets a second shot next Saturday for Weekend 2. Whether he switches things up remains to be seen.
